Editorial Policy
At Suffering Unseen, we hold ourselves to a clear set of editorial standards. This policy explains how we research, write, edit, and publish our content — and what our readers can expect from every article on this site. Transparency builds trust, and trust is everything.
Our Editorial Mission
Suffering Unseen exists to explore the raw, often overlooked dimensions of the human experience. Our mission is to publish content that is honest, well-researched, compassionate, and of genuine value to our readers — whether that's a deep dive into the psychology of hidden anxiety, an analysis of modern conflict, an exploration of Islamic perspectives on mental peace, or a critical look at technology's impact on human connection.
We do not publish content to shock, exploit, or sensationalise. We publish to illuminate.
Our Core Editorial Principles
Accuracy First
Every factual claim we publish must be supported by credible sources. We do not publish rumours, speculation presented as fact, or unverified claims.
Source Transparency
We link to our primary sources wherever possible. We cite academic studies, established news organisations, government reports, and recognised expert opinions.
Fairness and Balance
On contested topics, we present multiple credible perspectives. We distinguish clearly between fact, analysis, and opinion.
Human Dignity
We treat the subjects of our writing — especially those who are suffering — with dignity and care. We never exploit pain for engagement.
Safe Messaging
On mental health topics including suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders, we follow established safe messaging guidelines from WHO and mental health authorities.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or external pressure. Advertising and editorial are kept strictly separate.
Our Research and Writing Process
Topics are selected based on reader interest, social relevance, and our editorial mission. We prioritise underreported subjects and angles that mainstream media misses.
We research using peer-reviewed studies, credible journalism (Reuters, BBC, AP, Guardian), UN and government reports, published books, and where appropriate, interviews. We cross-reference all significant claims.
Articles are written to be clear, accessible, and engaging. We avoid jargon. We use subheadings, examples, and evidence to make complex topics understandable to a general reader.
Before publishing, each article is reviewed for factual accuracy, clarity, editorial standards, and compliance with our safe messaging policies on sensitive topics.
Published articles include a publication date. When content is substantially updated, we note the update date at the top of the article.
What We Do Not Publish
- Content that promotes, glorifies, or provides instructions for violence, self-harm, or illegal activity
- Misinformation or conspiracy theories presented as fact
- Hate speech or content that dehumanises any group based on religion, race, gender, or nationality
- Graphic descriptions of violence or suffering that serve no informational purpose
- Content that exploits children or vulnerable populations
- Paid editorial content (advertorials) without clear disclosure
- Plagiarised content — all writing on this site is original
Opinion and Analysis
Some content on Suffering Unseen represents opinion, analysis, or commentary rather than pure reporting. When an article represents our perspective or interpretation rather than established fact, we make this clear at the start of the article or within the content itself. Opinion pieces are clearly framed as such.
Corrections Policy
We take accuracy seriously. If we publish an error — factual, statistical, or otherwise significant — we will correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the relevant article with the date of correction. Minor typographical corrections may be made without notice.
If you spot an error, please contact us at [email protected]. We investigate all correction requests seriously.
Advertising and Editorial Independence
Suffering Unseen carries advertising through Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial content. No advertiser is given the right to review, approve, or veto content before publication. Our editorial decisions are made independently of commercial considerations.
Affiliate links (where present, primarily in book reviews) are disclosed. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Guest Contributions
We occasionally accept guest articles from external contributors. Guest articles are subject to the same editorial standards as our own content. They are clearly marked as guest contributions with the author's name. Guest contributors do not pay to be published. See our Contact Page to propose a contribution.
